This year’s Iftar Rohingya 1438H will be carried out in 3 countries which is Myanmar, Bangladesh and Malaysia. All of us have heard about the stories of how the Rohingya people have to seek refuge in the neighboring countries such as Bangladesh. Some even go as far as Malaysia and some brave their heart and stay at the motherland. This year marks the 5th year since we launched our Save Rohingya project. Throughout the 5 years, we managed to develop some connection with the locals there.
Saying that the life in Arakan is hard is an understatement. The people live in constant fear and worry. Their suffering is almost similar to the Palestinian, trapped in their own house, unable to move freely even to do daily activities and even to get medical attention. This is no different than living in a prison! They have no choice but to depend on their relatives who managed to escape from there.
Our first Iftar project is to cater those brave hearted people living in Arakan. Iftar Burma will cover almost all districts of northern Arakan such as Maungdaw, Buthidaung and Kyauktaw. They will receive a RM50 food package containing items such as nuts, sugar and flour than can be used to cook their favourite cuisine for the breaking of fast.
Aung Min Ga Lar Muslim Quarters is a settlement for the muslim people in Sittwe, Arakan. Our plan is to provide them with hot meal for the breaking of fast for almost 4200 people. The hot meal will be distributed in 5 mosques located in the quarter.
The second one will be carried out in Bangladesh. Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees run to Bangladesh hoping to turn over a new leaf. However, Bangladesh itself is a poor country and even the Bangladeshis are barely scraping by. As the result of the sudden influx of refugees, UNHCR camps are not able to house all of them, thus the existence of unregistered refugee camps. Forget a proper home, the asylum seekers don’t even have enough food and water.
Therefore, we aim to feed as many fugitives as possible in the upcoming month of barakah. Our focus areas are the Cox’s Bazaar district and Chittagong.
Some of the asylum seekers seek their safe haven in the land of Malaysia. We will also provide them with food aid for a few selected madrasah in the Kelang Valley area.
Iftar Rohinya will not solve the crises faced by the Rohingyas but we hope that it can somehow lessen their burden and give them hope and will to continue living. Malaysian is known all over the world to be a caring society especially towards other Muslim. The name Malaysia is sufficient enough to bring joy and hope to the unfortunates.
