“The best of people are those that bring most benefit to the rest of mankind”
Hadith of Prophet Muhammad SAW
The word Al-I’tisam in our name came from the verse of Al-Quran, Surah Ali Imran verse 103;
وَٱعۡتَصِمُواْ بِحَبۡلِ ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعً۬ا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُواْ
“Altogether hold fast the rope of Allah (Faith of Islam) and be not divided among yourselves”
Al-I’tisam could be interpreted as to be together or to unite for good causes. On the same breath, we call upon everyone from all walks of life to join hands and to take action to be the agent of change to make the world a better place for everyone.
Al-I’tisam Relief Program Association is a Non-governmental Organization hailing from Malaysia, aiming to provide the less fortunate a ray of hope and relief, no matter where they are and who they are. Perhaps a large majority of us have never experienced or knowing extreme poverty or the life in warzone. People in Gaza, Syria, Yemen, Arakan live a very different life than us.
No matter how bad our financial status is, we still have a house to live in and food to eat. Their situation is very different with us where every minute of living is a blessing and every meal is a grace.
No matter how hard we try to imagine the burden they are carrying, we can never really understand their struggle. Surely, we don’t have the capacity and resources to help everyone but what we are hoping is to rally you and as many people as possible to do something now.
HOW WE BEGAN
Al-I’tisam went into action in Feb 2013. It started off as a loose grouping to carry out humanitarian mission into Gaza, Palestine. The experience in Gaza left a deep impression on members of the team that eventually led to the registration of Al-I’tisam Relief Program Association. Al-I’tisam officially began to function as a registered NGO on May 1st, 2013.
Al-I’tisam matured very fast. At an infancy age of about 2 years plus, it emerged as one of the most active Malaysian NGO delivering aid and relief not only in Malaysia but also in several other countries such as Cambodia, Palestine, Burma, Bangladesh, India and Indonesia. We plan to grow and expand our work into more countries where the population suffers from war and poverty. To realize the goals, greater support is needed from all.
