DISASTER RELIEF – PALU (II)
Alhamdulillah, Al-I’tisam Field Kitchen’s first mission to Palu was a huge success yet the toughest mission amongst all humanitarian missions we have conducted by far. We left Palu on Oct 20th after 10 days serving those affected people in Sigi, North of Palu. Al-I’tisam Field Kitchen has been running for a total of 7 days. Alhamdulillah. The kitchen has served 500-600 pax of a cooked meal to the people in need. AlhamduIillah. Initially, we’ve thought of serving for 1000-2000 pax per day but due to some obstacles, we had to quickly adapt in the disaster’s adjustment. Whatever it is, a lesson had been learned well; working on the ground especially in a disaster never ever settled with one or two plans so the next visit to be prepared with as many as back -up plans; perhaps post-mortems and improvement from-time-to time will help a lot, inshaAllah.
Duration : 10 – 20 Oct 2018
Location : Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia
Team members: 6
Local partner: BSMI, IMARET
Objective: Serving humanity with love; prepare and distribute 1000 packs of hot meal to tsunami & earthquake victims through Al-I’tisam Field Kitchen
We were based in Palu, our base camp was located about 300 M to the village called Petobo.
We shared and stayed at makeshift base camp with our partners, BSMI, IMARET, and some other international NGOs.
Petobo is one of the villages that 90% vanished in the blink of an eye as the
neighborhood swallowed in mud during the earthquake-tsunami struck on Sep 26th.
Only 1000 villagers out of 5000 found alive. These people still in ecstatic
condition and deeply been traumatized by the tragedy.
We came and cooked for them with love
perhaps our small initiative could calm them
down for that time being and spread some positive vibes around.
May Allah SWT grant them the courage and strength to stay stronger despite the loss of their loved ones
has been aggravated and conquered their emotion every now and then.
Please pray & make du’a for them.
Have faith and believe Allah has a better plan for them all
Al-I’tisam Field Kitchen 1st mission to Palu was led by our CEO, Mohd Shah joined by one
of Al-I’tisam committee members and 3 committed staffs/volunteers.
We brought along a dedicated chef, Chef Matt from Kuala Lumpur whom really practice
his kitchen excellency and amazing cooking skill especially during a disaster,
in the conflict zone and emergency situations.
During the period, Al-I’tisam Field Kitchen (mission 1) had served a total of 3,500 packs of hot food to the
people in Palu and surrounding areas. Alhamdulillah.
Jazakumullahu khair for all the support and fund donated by all of you
We also served additional 100 packs of food to feed volunteers who work 24/7 in
the basecamp volunteering for the medical team; IMARET & BSMI’s field hospital.
Serving humanity with love
As humanitarian workers, serving ummah in various conflict zones, conducting a variety of programmes and activities since 2013
truly a challenging yet a learning process for a startup NGO like us. We’ve encountered some unexpected problems and challenges with open arms throughout the mission. Alhamdulillah all praises be to Allah as He guided us along the journey smoothly.
Volunteering in a disaster zone was never an easy task though.
We have had to deal with some issues like no-call-no-show from volunteers to lend their hands as a kitchen helper.
We also short handed to handle kitchen for a smooth running, also, the food stocks are
limited and we have to fight for a reasonable price whenever buying at the fresh market.
Alhamdulillah, we’re glad as we were able to manage to get rid those barriers we faced during duty of call in Palu.
Let’s spread more love to the people in Donggala, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia
More donations needed for 2nd mission
