SYRIA EMERGENCY AID – FIRE AT BEKAA VALLEY CAMP, LEBANON
EMERGENCY FUND FOR VICTIMS OF BEKAA VALLEY SYRIAN REFUGEE CAMP IN LEBANON
4 July – 10 July 2017 (7 days)
While Muslims around the world are enjoying their Eid celebration with dearest families in their comfortable houses, our brothers and sisters who live in Bekaa Valley are weeping over the loss of their family members and house in a fire that happened last Sunday. The fire wiped out the entire 100 tents and killed at least 1 people.
The blaze which believed to be caused by a cooking accident destroyed everything including the clothes, food and the furniture. According to the spokesperson of UNCHR, the settlement was built in a very ad hoc way and it has a high risk of catching fire especially during summer time. Prior to this incidence, there have been no words from the government to build a formal camp so the refugees are trying to make the best of a bad situation by choosing to live in this camp.

The victims are currently being sheltered in a safe location right now but that is only a temporary. UNCHR has managed to obtain a piece of land for the victims to relocate and they will also bear the cost of setting up the new tents. However, UNCHR were counting on NGOs from all over the world to help in providing the victims with food and other essentials.
Al-I’tisam is raising USD10,200 which is equivalent to RM45,000 to help the residents of the burned down Bekaa Valley Refugee Camp to get back on their feet. We are planning to give them an Emergency Aid that contains food, cooking utensils and other basic necessities that cost USD100 each for 102 families. We are hoping that this Emergency Aid can last them for about 10-14 days.
USD100 x 102 families= USD10,200 (RM45,000)
Our thought is with everyone affected by the tragedy and also those volunteers who are on site to do whatever they can to help. As for us, let’s do our part and help in any way we can.
